COM 216 - Film History

Prerequisite(s): COM 208 .
This course presents an introduction to film history, focusing in particular on certain moments and themes made important for technological, aesthetic, social and economic reasons. Students will become well versed in how to treat a film as a cultural text, understanding the work as a document with great historical and sociological significance. Students will also learn about the origins and development of cinema, major film movements and film theories, and the particular workings of the industry and the field of Film Studies.
