MAT 312 - Modern Geometry Credits: 3
Prerequisite(s): MAT 202 - Calculus II or permission of the instructor. A survey course that includes selected topics in foundations of geometry, Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry, such as Hilbert axioms and the parallel postulate. This course concentrates on preparing young math teachers to instruct geometry by reviewing basic axioms and theorems. Also, new technology will be introduced, the Geometer’s Sketchpad. In addition to the prerequisite, for a student to be very comfortable in this course, a good understanding of high school geometry and college algebra is essential. This course is typically offered in the spring semester only of even years.
