REA 020 - Academic Success Credits: 1
Prerequisite(s): Placement or instructor permission. Academic Success is a one-hour course in which students meet with a faculty tutor from the Reading and Study Skills Center once a week in order to develop habits necessary for success in the college environment. Students take a diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the term from which they, in consultation with the instructor, formulate a plan to strengthen skills in any of the following areas: managing time and avoiding procrastination; taking tests; reducing anxiety; developing study strategies; improving reading strategies and reading rates; cultivating listening and note taking strategies; using personal and academic support services provided by the College; developing motivation and concentration. Students are placed in this course based on GPA and academic standing. Grading is P (Pass) or F (Fail). Students may take this course only once. Those withdrawn from it for a violation of the attendance policy will receive a WF even if the withdrawal occurs before the “last day to drop a course with a W” date listed on the academic calendar. Students may not use credit from this course to satisfy degree, distribution, or general education requirements. Failing this course will negatively impact a student’s GPA.
