ENG 325 - African American Literature


Credits: 3

Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing.
This course is a survey of African American literature from its beginnings to the Harlem Renaissance and the Contemporary period. African American literature is central to understanding the broader American experience. It confronts directly the troubling and tragic legacy of slavery, segregation, and racism in the United States. In examining the development of this tradition and its experiments, students will encounter a number of genres, including prose fiction, poetry, and autobiographical narrative.
