ENG 410 - Medieval Literature

Credits: 3

Prerequisite(s): Junior standing; ENG 211WI  and ENG 212WI .
This course will examine selected works of Geoffrey Chaucer and his contemporaries in the context of the cultural upheavals and artistic achievements of late 14th century England. The deposition of Richard II, the first major visitation of the plague in England, the Peasants' Revolt, the proto-Protestant religious movement of Wycliffe, ongoing war with France, and the continued rise of a mercantile class, contributed to a dynamic period that witnessed a flowering of late Middle-English literature.
