ENG 450 - Modern and Contemporary British Literature

Prerequisite(s): Junior standing; ENG 211WI  and ENG 212WI .
This course will examine developments in Modern and Contemporary British literature from the early 20th century to the early 21st century, as well as relevant social, cultural, political, and aesthetic contexts. The time covered represents a body of literature coping with a rapidly changing country, from the multiple crises surrounding WWI and its aftermath, to Britain's decline as an empire, to Britain's place in a contemporary globalized world. Representative texts may come from a number of genres, including poetry, the novel and short story, autobiography, drama, and the essay.
