Credits: 3

Prerequisite(s): ANT 201
This course explores the ethical, legal, and practical dimensions of archaeology as a professional discipline and unique field of study, taking into consideration a variety of relevant topics. We will examine ethical practice and legal issues, drawing on a range of national and international attitudes and approaches to archaeological heritage and its management. Among the special topics we will consider are issues and problems created by illicit trade and theft of antiquities, including in the context of war and conflict, and the complex relationships that exist between archaeologists and others, some of whom may be key stakeholders
