ANT 471 - Archaeology Fieldwork


Credits: 1-6

Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor.
This course provides a foundation in current methods and theories of historical archaeology, and offers a solid introduction to the practical skills of site survey, excavation, recording data, and laboratory procedures. Participants will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment and software. In addition to practical training, there will be a number of field trips to local archaeology sites. The course includes weekly readings on topics in historical archaeology; lectures by staff and noted authorities covering such topics as landscape history, material culture, and local history; professional opportunities in historical archaeology; and the role of public archaeology.
