SOC 372 - Sociology of Medicine and Health Credits: 3
Prerequisite(s): SOC 101WI or permission of instructor. Medicine, health care, and health are things that affect all of our lives. The growing sub discipline of Sociology of Medicine examines health trends in America and other countries, the causes of those patterns, and political and social efforts to change health patterns. In the process, students will examine how the power of medical associations, regulatory agencies, and medical industries impacts our health and access to medicine. Students will also learn how cultural and family practices affect health and how cultural attitudes relate to what we define as unhealthy and acceptable.
