REA 102 - Academic Success in the First Year Prerequisite(s): Placement; first year students only. This course is not open to students who have taken REA 101: The Culture of College. The goal of Academic Success in the First Year is for students to develop the basic skills, attitudes, and behaviors to ensure success in the first year and beyond. To that end, students will take a diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the course from which they, in consultation with the instructor, will formulate an individualized plan to strengthen skills in any of the following areas: managing time and avoiding procrastination; taking tests; reducing anxiety; developing study strategies; improving reading strategies and reading rates; cultivating listening and note taking strategies; using personal and academic support services provided by the College; and developing motivation and concentration. This course requires that students meet individually with the course instructor for at least 15 minutes per week. Additionally, students must also meet for at least one hour per week with an LRC tutor of their choice (this is above any already-required labs or 010 courses). Students may use credit from this course or REA 101: The Culture of College (but not both) as elective credit toward graduation. This course is not open to students who have taken REA 101: The Culture of College. A lab fee is required for this course.
