Flagler College offers a major and minor in Art History. Our faculty is student-focused, providing students with a foundational knowledge of global art history, visual culture, and the methodologies for understanding art within broader social and historical contexts. Art History at Flagler promotes intellectual and personal growth by asking students to evaluate works of visual culture by engaging in interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and relational thinking; by analyzing and synthesizing primary and secondary sources, and by communicating their analyses in written and oral forms. Entry-level coursework in the major and minor provides students with a firm foundation in art history, while advanced courses and electives allow an opportunity for in-depth engagement across places, periods, and approaches. With a degree from Flagler in Art History, students are prepared to pursue a range of careers in the arts, including museum and gallery positions, work as educators, jobs in publishing, and more. Our graduates actively seek placement in graduate school programs, as well as employment or internship opportunities with museums and arts organizations. The high impact learning experiences in Flagler’s Art History program fosters the development of students who are critical thinkers, visually literate, and articulate communicators, all skills that can lead to success in the arts, as well as many other career paths.
