Computer Information Systems Major

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) major provides students with a strong knowledge base and essential technology skills for developing, implementing and managing information technology and information systems solutions in a variety of domains. Computer Information Systems professionals bridge the gap between computing technologies and real-world applications by focusing on the integration of technological solutions with business processes to meet the information and decision-support needs of organizations. A major in Computer Information Systems prepares students for career opportunities and graduate studies in Computer Information Systems, Business Analytics, Software and Applications (Apps) Development, Web Development, Database Administration, Information Security, Business Intelligence, and Project Management.

A total of 63 semester hours is required for the Computer Information Systems major: 3 hours in Mathematics, 12 hours in core areas of Business Administration (BA), 30 hours in core areas of Computer Information Systems (CIS), and 18 hours in selected CIS, BA and other electives. Students completing the requirements for a Computer Information Systems major will receive a Bachelor of Science degree.

At least nine hours of these electives must be from the “Computer Information Systems Electives” category and at least three hours of these electives must be from “Business Administration and Other Electives” category.

Note(s)


Students are strongly encouraged to complete MAT 135  (or MAT 161  or MAT 201 ), ECO 211 , ECO 212 , ACC 211 , CIS 200 , CIS 205 , CIS 206 , and CIS 305  prior to their junior year.
