Return to: Programs of Study by Department
The Cinematic Arts major embodies the concept that the most powerful learning comes from the blending of theory and practice. Students take a variety of courses from every department housed in the School of Creative Arts and Letters to provide a foundation in the five specific areas of emphasis within the Cinematic Arts major: Design & Animation, Film & Television Production, Writing & Storytelling for the Screen, Performance, and the History & Theory of Film-based/Performance Arts. Cinematic Arts majors will learn to create in a variety of mediums including video, film, visual art, and theatrical performance. Students will be prepared for positions, developing concepts for and creating projects, as artistic digital storytellers. The goal of the Cinematic Arts major is to assist each student in finding their voice as a storyteller through the study and application of foundational concepts in the five areas of emphasis. The Cinematic Arts major gives each student the opportunity to customize the major to their specific interests through the ability to select from a number of courses in each area of emphasis. Students carve their own unique paths through this interdisciplinary major.
A total of 46-50 credits are required for the Cinematic Arts major.
