Data Science Major

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that aims to manage, analyze, and interpret complex data through different scientific methods and for a wide range of applications where data-driven inquiries are needed. The Data Science Program at Flagler College will provide students with a solid foundation as well as the applied dimensions of computer information systems, informatics, mathematics, and statistics. A major in Data Science prepares students for diverse career opportunities such as data scientists, business intelligence analysts, machine learning specialists and data architects in a variety of industries and public services. The rigorous training provided by this degree will enable students to pursue graduate studies in Data Science, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence. The program is also designed to provide students with opportunities to pursue a minor in another discipline such as finance, marketing, business, coastal environmental science, biology, psychology, and sociology.

A total of 59 semester hours is required for the Data Science major: 23 hours in Mathematics, 27 hours in Computer Information Systems, and 9 hours in the selected CIS, MAT, and Other Electives. Students completing the requirements for a Data Science Major will receive a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Students must satisfactorily complete the following:

At least three hours of these electives must be from the Computer Information Systems Electives category and at least three hours of these electives must be from the Mathematics Electives category.

Special Notes


Students should complete CIS 115, CIS 200, CIS 206, COR 14-, MAT 323, MAT 201, MAT 202, MAT 215 prior to their junior year.
