Peace, Conflict, and Genocide Minor

A minor in Peace, Conflict, & Genocide offers students a unique interdisciplinary background to approach modern issues which will shape our society and prepares students for scholarship or employment in fields such as public policy, diplomacy, international development, international relations, international law, NGOs, conflict resolution, homeland security, and academia.  

Required Courses (9 Credit Hours)

Experiential Capstone


To receive credit hours, a student must complete a capstone course to provide “in the field” engagement or experiential learning on the subject of peace, conflict, and genocide, along with a 1,500- 2,000-word integrative reflection (to be submitted to the minor coordinator no later than two weeks prior to graduation). Students will select one of the following options to be completed as a capstone course: 

  • A study abroad or study away (Students must receive permission from study abroad/away instructor and approval from the Peace, Conflict, & Genocide coordinator. Flagship courses do not count);

  • PCG 481, PCG 482, PCG 483: Internship course. Internship placement with related agencies/ programs, requiring a total of 120 hours to be completed in one semester.  

  • CIE internship course related to peace, conflict, and genocide, requiring a total of 120 hours to be completed in one semester, and other course requirements specified by the instructor of record.  

  •  Undergraduate research under the direction of a Flagler professor (enrolling in an independent study or research specific course), culminating in an academic presentation (including Honor’s Day or a discipline specific conference) or publication, including Flagler’s undergraduate research journal, Saints Academic Review: A Journal for Student Research. Students must get prior approval from the Peace, Conflict, & Genocide coordinator and a signature of completion from the faculty member they completed the requirement.
