The Biology Major at Flagler College offers a rigorous and comprehensive education in the fascinating field of biology. Through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory and field experiences, and hands-on research opportunities, students will develop a deep understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts that underpin the study of life. The program begins with a solid foundation in core areas of biology (including genetics, evolution, ecology), as well as chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Students will then build the rest of their degree from a list of electives courses, allowing them to choose the courses that best prepare them for their career goals.
In addition to building a solid theoretical framework, students will also acquire essential scientific skills and techniques. All of our students will have the opportunity to conduct hands-on research by designing, collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting their research findings to the College and larger local community. This program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of career paths, such as research, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, environmental conservation, and government agencies. They may also choose to pursue advanced degrees in specialized areas of biology, such as genetics, microbiology, ecology, or molecular biology.
Upon completion of an all major and graduation requirements, students will earn a Bachelor of Science degree.
Depending on Math Placement scores, this major requires 66-76 credits to graduate.
